Channels: Email (IMAP/SMTP)
Email via IMAP and SMTP is a Tier 1 channel. Use it when you want Wayland to read and reply from a mailbox you already own. IMAP handles incoming mail and SMTP handles outgoing.
Before you start (prerequisites and accounts)
Section titled “Before you start (prerequisites and accounts)”- A mailbox with IMAP and SMTP access, and the host, port, and credentials for each.
- The Wayland desktop app running with a model provider connected.
- An app password if your provider requires one for IMAP/SMTP.
Create the credentials (on the provider side)
Section titled “Create the credentials (on the provider side)”From your mail provider, collect the IMAP host and port and the SMTP host and port, plus the username and password for each. Many providers issue a dedicated app password for IMAP/SMTP rather than your normal login.
Connect it in Wayland (Settings -> Channels -> Email (IMAP/SMTP))
Section titled “Connect it in Wayland (Settings -> Channels -> Email (IMAP/SMTP))”- Open Settings -> Channels and choose Email (IMAP/SMTP).
- Enter the IMAP host, IMAP port, IMAP user, and IMAP password, and set IMAP TLS as your provider requires.
- For sending, leave Use same auth on to reuse the IMAP credentials, or turn it off and enter the SMTP host, SMTP port, SMTP user, SMTP password, and SMTP TLS.
- Save.
Verify (status goes from idle to connected, send a test message)
Section titled “Verify (status goes from idle to connected, send a test message)”After saving, the status moves from idle to connected. Send an email to the mailbox and confirm a reply is sent back.
Route to an assistant or team
Section titled “Route to an assistant or team”Set the assistant and default model on the page. Inbound mail routes to that assistant.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Wrong port or TLS settings are the common cause of connection failures. Confirm both the IMAP and SMTP settings and any required app password. See Channel Connection Issues.
