Settings: Constitution
The Constitution panel holds Wayland’s standing rules. The text loads fresh on every turn, so edits apply immediately with no restart. The panel is a Markdown editor with a section outline, a live token estimate, autosave, a reset action, and specialist overlays.
Editor
Section titled “Editor”| Control | Description |

| Markdown editor | A rich Markdown editor holding the full Constitution text. |
| Sections outline | A table of contents built from the headings. Click an entry to scroll to it. |
| Token estimate | An approximate token count. It warns near roughly 2,000 tokens and flags past roughly 3,000, where adherence drops. |
| Autosave | Edits save automatically after a short pause. A saved indicator confirms the write. |
| Reset | Restore the default Constitution. A confirmation step warns that current edits are lost. |
Specialist overlays
Section titled “Specialist overlays”Below the editor, specialist overlays let you keep per-specialist rules separate from the main Constitution. Overlays live at ~/.wayland/specialists/<id>.md. Moving sections into overlays is the recommended way to stay under the token ceiling.
